Earth was a primary source of remedial medicines in ancient times and middle ages. In modern times the valuable therapeutic values of earth was further investigated and popularized by the efforts of German born Emanuel Felke popularly known as “Clay Pastor”.

The works of Felke shows the remarkable effects of forces on earth on human body especially in night. According to Felke application of clay or moistened earth was the only true natural bandage to cure wounds and skin diseases with its refreshing, invigorating and vitalizing effects.

Another pioneer of nature cure Adolf Just suggests sleeping or lying on earth at night could cure people with serious nervous troubles.

Barefoot walking all day long is another great way to achieve good health and true happiness except when it is too cold. One could draw vital energy and strength out of earth via their feet. Seems unrealistic in the fast life of modern times but one could try going barefooted as often as possible. Remember, walking barefooted in rooms with painted floors could affect body adversely.

Mud Packs
Moistened earth is increasingly used in treatment of diseases like chronic inflammation caused by internal diseases, wounds, boils, sprains and bruises. This treatment is often coupled with proper diet and other natural therapies. The advantage of mud treatment is that it retains moisture and coolness for longer periods then cold water compresses. The cold moisture in the mud packs draws blood into the surface by relaxing the pores of the skin, relieves inner congestion and pain, eliminates morbid matters and promotes heat radiation.

Mud packs are prepared out of the clays obtained from about 10 cms below the earth surface. Mud with impurities like compost or pebbles should be avoided. A smooth paste is prepared with this mud by mixing it with warm water. Once cool, it is spread evenly on a piece of cloth (size according to the requirement).

Mud packs are very helpful in diseases like general weakness, nervous disorders, fever, measles and influenza. It is also helpful it gout, rheumatism, stomach troubles, diphtheria, sexual disorders, headache, toothache and general pains and ache.
The mud bandage is covered with flannel once applied on the body part. The pack is left for 30 – 40 minutes. Abdomen is the root of many diseases and applying mud pack on this part of the body could cure all forms of indigestion affecting stomach and bowels.

Hot and cold application of mud pack is useful in reliving chronic pains, lumbago and intestinal cramps. Mud packs also reduces the discomfort caused due to flatulence and intestinal obstructions.

Mud Bath
Mud or clay bath is another mode of treatment related to curative powers of earth. It is applied on the body in the same was as mud packs but in larger scale.

In this method the mud or clay is first ground and purified to remove all the impurities. It is then mixed with warm water and mixed well for a smooth paste. The paste is then spread on a large cloth sheet and wrapped around the body. A blanket is wrapped over it depending upon the room temperature of optimum benefits. This is followed by cleansing warm water bath and a shorter cold shower.

Mud bath tones the skin by increasing the circulation and energizing the skin tissues. Mud baths also helps in improving complexion, clear spots and patches on skin caused by skin disorders. It is very helpful in diseases like leucoderma, psoriasis and leprosy.

Are you having annoying black spots or what is commonly known as ‘blackheads’ on your nose, forehead, or other places? Do you want to get rid of them and have a clear skin? But you do not know how. The following points will show you easy remedies on how to get rid of blackheads.

Always use a mild scrub or exfoliant to remove any dead cells and expose the blackhead 3-4 times a week

Use creams containing AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Fruit Acids) like gluco-creams this will clear away dead cells which blocks the pores on the skin to expose the blackheads.

Skin when exposed to sunlight and ultra-violet lights encourages skin peeling and helps to clear blocked pores. Therefore sunbathing is also a helpful tip on how to get rid of blackheads.

Never use bar soap to wash your face. The ingredients that holds in a bar form can clog the pores in your skin. Splashing plain water to your face to 3 – 4 times a day will help you get rid of blackheads.

Use a clay base mask, which does not contain any mint content as this may cause irritation of skin. The mask will attract and absorb the oil in the blocked pore.

You can also use warm compress by placing it on your face for approximately 10-15 minutes to soften blackheads making it easier to remove them. This is the most effective remedy on how to get rid of blackheads.

Avoid cosmetic products containing alcohol, isopropyl mystate, lanolin, sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, propylene glycol, mineral oil and parabens.

Use a mild cleanser to remove make-up at the end of the day and control oil from your skin as blackheads are caused by excessive oil production clogging the pores. Use a non-comedogenic and oil-free foundation and concealer when wearing make up so they do not block the pores.

Altering your bad eating habit is also one of the tips on how to get rid of blackheads. Avoid cooked carbohydrates and fats by replacing these with fresh fruits, vegetables and raw fats.

Knowing the technique on how to get rid of blackheads is very important. Do not try to extract forcibly, using your fingers, fingernails or a comedone (blackhead) remover. This may cause permanent scars to your skin and damages your pores. Squeezing it forcibly will only force some of it even deeper into the skin, which may lead to infection.

To squeeze your blackheads, gently apply pressure to both sides of the blackhead by pushing down, and then up around the blemish. Place tissue on the tip of your fingers to avoid slipping that would tear the skin and cause further damage and may block the pore completely.

Undoubtedly these methods are the most effective tips on how to get rid of your blackheads. It is also advisable to see a dermatologist if your blackheads are not getting removed and has caused acne, pimple or even a cyst due to squeezing.

Everyone loves the sun when summer hits. Not everybody loves the sunburns caused by the fun days out at the beach or chilling in a pool in your backyard. Getting burnt out in the sun can be helped when proper protection is applied. Try these tips for a sun burn free day!

Use sunscreen – By using sunscreen that is water resistant will help drastically when out at the beach or water park. The best sunscreen to use has a rating of SPF15 or higher. Always remember to,

Reapply after swimming or sweating a lot

When out for a normal days length the amount of 1 ounce should cover you. You can apply more if you feel you need it though applying too much will just result in having to buy another bottle at the end of the day.

Use Lip Balm – Often times the lips become chapped due to them becoming dry from the exposure to the suns rays. Lip balms such as Zilatin, Blisstex, or Carmex will be the best. They contain

SPF 15 or higher

Are water resistant

Non greasy

Long lasting and are medicated

Wearing Wide Hats – Some may look tacky where as others provide to be very attractive. Wearing hats will help prevent

Burning of the scalp

Prevents coarse, brittle and split ends of the hair

Additional protection for the face, shoulders, and neck

You can also sit in the shade and apply sunscreen for the hair if you do not wish to wear a hat. With these summer skin care tips you should never have to worry about turning red if you fall asleep to the caressing sounds of the waves.

There are other abrasives that are slower then the others in clearing the dead cells such as

Sodium

tetraborate

decahydrat

These materials can be put into soaps, body washes, creams, and are the base material of most of the face masks that are peel able, found out on the market.

Other materials found to be used in the epidermabrasion process are

sandpaper

hemp cloth

cellulose of the luffa plant

sea-sponges

man-made sponges of cellulose and polyurethane

Woven webs can and are also used widely for epidermabrasion. One of the best known woven web based products is known as the “ubiquitous” wash cloth. This cloth provides a very gentle level of epidermabrasion and many people with sensitive or dry skin love the feeling it leaves one with.

Polyester webs that are not woven have just recently been brought into development for specific use in the epidermabrasion treatment process. Many skin types can tolerate the use of the polyester treatment. It is said that the extremely dry skin types should avoid this treatment due to the fact that it will cause more cracking and fissures in the end.

Always check with a doctor if you are unsure which type of treatment would be right for you before you undergo a treatment.

Moisturizers, have often times been referred to as lubricants, humectants, emollients, greases, and greases. This shouldn’t be so because each term has a different definition entirely. The specific definitions are as follows:

Moisturizer – A mixture that restores moisture to (and object)

Humectants – A mixture, such as glycerin, that absorbs another mixture to help retain moisture

Emollient – A mixture that makes something soft and also soothes the skin

Grease – oily matter normally made up of animal fat

Lubricant – A mixture, such as grease, that reduces friction, heat, and wear between different matter

Moisturizers have always been though prevent dry skin and heal it if you have it. Though there isn’t a clear or simple definition of what dry skin is or isn’t, dry skin is composed with several characteristics and symptoms in mind such as:

Dry skin often feels dry, very uncomfortable, at times painful, and itchy. Sometimes it has a stinging and tingling sensations

Common characteristics have a rough and uneven look as well as a sand-like feeling

Often associated with redness, white splotchy patches, flaks and appears that way, cracking of the skin, and extreme cases; fissures

Even with this being stated, moisturizers do prevent and add moisture back into the skin. You can have dry spots all over your skin or just on your face. By applying a moisturizer the skin will have that much needed boost of moisture and get that silky smooth feeling. Water is a natural moisturizer and can be better than other synthetically created substances that are bought over the counter or in stores.

Here’s an important note before I tell you about home facials. Facial masks whether homemade or not should be left on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing them off. You should always follow this with moisturizer.

Listed below is a simple home facials recipe that will give you a great face mask.

1. French Clay and Aloe Mask

What’s in it?

1.5 teaspoon french clay

Half a teaspoon kaolin clay

1.5 tablespoon aloe vera

1 tablespoon rosewater

2 drops rose oil

Prep: Mix together the French and kaolin clays. Add the aloe vera, rosewater, and oils. Refrigerate up to 4 weeks.

This next home facial mask is simple and excellent for soothing a sunburned face and for all types of skin.

2. Soothing Yogurt Mask

What’s in it?

1 tablespoon natural yogurt (best when kept at room temperature)

1 teaspoon honey (microwave if honey is hardened)

Prep: Combine ingredients and apply to face. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Wash face thoroughly with a hot wash cloth. Add 1 extra teaspoon of honey if you have dry skin. Add a couple drops of lime juice (fresh), for oily skin.

Author Diane Irons stated cat litter is the same ingredient found in clays at spas. So why not use them in home facials.

3. Cat Litter Mask

What’s in it?

1 bag of 100% Natural Clay cat litter

1 to 1.5 gallons of Water

Drops of oil for your desired smell

Prep: Mix 2 – 4 tablespoons of the 100% Natural Clay cat litter, water and a couple drops of your preferred oil smell. The oil also helps the cat litter less abrasive. Apply generously to the face. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off thoroughly with a steaming wash cloth.

Exfoliating your face is one way to keep yourself looking great no matter if it’s the summer months or winter. After reading this article, you will know how to exfoliate your skin in 7 simple steps

Step One
Keep your face moist with water before exfoliating.

Step Two
Use a loofah, gloves, or a scrubbing sponge on your face.

Step Three
Apply a cleanser specially engineered for faces to a sponge or loofah. Cleansers that contain 25% pumice or more in their formula should be avoided at all costs.

Step Four
Rub the face in circular motions and do not scrub under the eyes. The skin under the eyes can be very easily damaged by abrasive cleansers and harsh loofahs or sponges.

Step Five
Rinse well with lukewarm water. If you have delicate skin, hot water should be avoided. It is also harmful for normal skin types.

Step Six
Use moisturizers that contain hydroxyl acids, preferably alpha and beta. These acids will continue the exfoliating process, because acids cause additional dead skin cells to slough off.

Step Seven
Try using exfoliating masks. You can make one at home by mashing papayas and put it all over your face. The enzymes found in papayas aid the exfoliating process. Rinse completely off after 20 minutes.

By following these easy steps everyday, you will know how to exfoliate properly. It only take 25 minutes per day, and you will on your way to having healthier looking skin.

1. Say “Hello” to colored moisturizer and “Goodbye” to foundation!
Moisturizers are significantly lighter than foundation and they still cover flaws plus they won’t feel as if they are dripping down your face. Using a tinted or colored moisturizer will give you the color you want but with added protection.

2. Bright is the new dark
Bright colors are extremely popular and look great on every skin color; especially against darker skin. Keep your sandal color in mind as well if you find yourself running out of color ideas.

3. Don’t spoil just your face
When applying sunscreen make sure and take a few more minutes to cover your checks, chest, and neck, and then use what’s left on the hands.

4. Fight Sagging
Going without a bra or using one that doesn’t support your body can make your cute look rather ugly. You can counter by having a bra that works with your body and your outfit. When wearing a tank top, do a strap-check first and then go out into public.

5. Avoiding the oompa look
Are you a victim of the orange, splotchy, tanned legs? Keeping your eye out on what the market has to offer is the first in defense against this poor look. If you aren’t having any luck, then go to a tanner before the summer begins to get a head start on that gorgeous tan.

6. You aren’t the wicked witch of the west, don’t look like it
To keep eye-shadow from creeping into your eyelids, use an eye-shadow primer. Try using the liquid eyeliners over the pencils. Also put the liner on first and then the eye-shadow. This will cause the liner to set.

7. Too much powder isn’t a good thing
Over powdering your face will only cause it to look like you’re trying to cover a grease spill on your face. If you are worried about oily skin, use blotting pads. Remember, dewy-looking skin drives the guys mad.

8. Pink and Flushed
Pink and flushed skin is in. Apply bronze on the forehead, nose, and cheeks. Use pink blush on the “apples” of the cheeks.

9. Keep Hair off
Keep sweat off yourself with headbands, ponytails, or loose buns. These looks are still very attractive.

10. If In Doubt Ask For Help
This last beauty tip applies to everything be it hair color, makeup color, clothes, shoes, etc. If you’re not sure ask for advice and help. Don’t risk looking like a fool just because you were afraid to ask.
