Nutritious and Healing Foods

November 14th, 2010

There are some foods which help us in overall health development and prevention against diseases. So we have compiled a small list of such nutritious and healing foods for you. Here is the list.

Sweet Potatoes
You might like them for their creamy texture and their just- sweet- enough taste, but your body recognizes the sweet potato as the vitamin A storehouse that it is. A single cup will give you eight times the recommended dietary allowance.

Swiss Chard
This quaintly named leafy green vegetable is high in vitamin C and beta-carotene (the plant form of vitamin A ) and also offers fiber. You can prolong its shelf life for up to five days by wrapping it in perforated plastic.

Tofu
If dairy products are on your list of foods to avoid, consider tofu. Four ounces will give you 232 milligrams of calcium per serving. Use it as a cheese substitute in a dish such as manicotti, to help cut your cholesterol.

Tomatoes
The simple tomato can help you meet requirements for vitamins C and A in so many pleasing ways : chopped raw in salsa or gazpacho; sun-dried; sweet, and splashed with olive oil ; cooked and seasoned as a spaghetti sauce.

Tuna
The fish oil in tuna can help reduce inflammation from arthritis, according to a recent study. You’ll benefit the most from fresh tuna steak or tuna packed in water. Avoid oil-packed tuna to keep your fat intake down.
