What Are Skin Functions?
The skin has a number of different functions including giving a person color and shape, along with various other functions such as protection from:
- Pressure and strokes
- Heat and cold
- Acids and other chemicals
- bacteria, viruses and fungi
- Ultra Violet Rays
- The loss of water
The Skins ability to resist the “baddies”
Not only does the skin provide and act like a biological barrier against bacteria and fungi, but if treated with the proper care, it looks great! It acts as a barrier through the use of an acidic PH levels and other defensive tactics based in both the epidermis and dermis levels of skin.
Your very own Thermostat
Another of the skins functions is the ability to control body temperature. The skins does this by allowing sweat to leave the body through its pores. There are two terms that are used and these are Vasodilatation and Vasoconstriction. This is the widening and narrowing of veins which helps to cool the body down (vasodilatation) and retain body heat (vasoconstriction).
One of the 5 senses
The skin allows for the sense of touch. The skin contains a lot of nerve endings and receptors which allow you to feel pain, heat, cold, and more.
Vitamin-D just isn’t found in Milk
When the skin has direct and indirect contact with UV rays found in the light from the sun, the skin produces Vitamin-D as a by product in a way to act as a barrier from any harmful rays.
Body Expression
The nerves in the skin also act and provoke body language and expression. This is seen when a person blushes or their skin “goes white” which is also know as paling. Other expressions occur as well from the nerves through the skin.
