How Epidermabrasion Works?
A new concept in cleaning the skin is called epidermabrasion. What this is, literally, the rubbing off any dead-cells from the surface of the skin. Numerous substances are used such as:
- Sand
- Sawdust
- Silica
- The most commonly used material; pumice
There are other abrasives that are slower then the others in clearing the dead cells such as
- Sodium
- tetraborate
- decahydrat
These materials can be put into soaps, body washes, creams, and are the base material of most of the face masks that are peel able, found out on the market.
Other materials found to be used in the epidermabrasion process are
- sandÂpaper
- hemp cloth
- cellulose of the luffa plant
- sea-sponges
- man-made sponges of cellulose and polyurethane
Woven webs can and are also used widely for epidermabrasion. One of the best known woven web based products is known as the “ubiquitous” wash cloth. This cloth provides a very gentle level of epidermabrasion and many people with sensitive or dry skin love the feeling it leaves one with.
Polyester webs that are not woven have just recently been brought into development for specific use in the epidermabrasion treatment process. Many skin types can tolerate the use of the polyester treatment. It is said that the extremely dry skin types should avoid this treatment due to the fact that it will cause more cracking and fissures in the end.
Always check with a doctor if you are unsure which type of treatment would be right for you before you undergo a treatment.
