Dangers of Dieting

Dangers of DietingIn a mad rush to look thin people starve themselves with crash diets or better call it crazy diet program as they don’t know the basic principals of nutrition. One could call them malnourished. This is scientifically called as “negative nitrogen balance” which means that your body is putting out more nitrogen then it is taking in. When this happens your body loses weight but not necessarily fat. During negative nitrogen balance, muscles, kidney, liver and other organs become smaller. One cannot afford to lose much of these type of tissues as some of it like brain tissues as irreplaceable. During starvation fat cells never disappears in numbers. A research has been made on mice for starvation and according to Dr. Irving Faust of Rockfeller research team, “Fat cells appear to be fully protected during starvation”.

If you starve or half starve for long time, you will eventually start loosing considerable fat but by then you would have endangered your life. Someone who has maintained negative nitrogen balance for a longer period of time is less likely to survive any serious disease he contracts.

Usually nitrogen our body consumes through food is equal to the nitrogen it gives out as waste and this is positive nitrogen balance which could be achieved with proper nutritional diets.

I think dieting is ok to a certain extent but people go to extremes just for looks. I am sure the trends will change soon.
